Would Chlamydomonas reinhardtii Become Heroic Phytoplankton?
Since this spring, my friend who is majoring in environmental science and I have been conducting research on the effects of phytoplankton on the environment. Fortunately, I am connected with a professor who has a lot of experience in teaching thesis in the field of environment and I am receiving advice. The abstract of her research paper was also presented as a poster at the 11th international conference in Bangkok, Thailand.
However, my curiosity about the proliferation of phytoplankton waste plastic degrading enzymes is leading me to a new research topic.
There are plankton that I am interested in. Chlamydomonas reinhardtii is a phytoplankton species originally living in soil and freshwater, but it is the parent species of improved plankton (experimental name: CC-124_PETase) that makes plastic degrading enzymes. I believe that if technology to propagate this species on our coasts is developed, our coastal pollution problem will be greatly improved.
So, I am going to continue my research by asking myself the following questions and finding answers.
